These are trying times for local towns. We both understand that taking over the leadership of the Town Council amid the Covid-19 pandemic is a daunting task, but one that we are eager and excited to tackle. While maintaining a healthy budget is paramount to our goals, we do not want to lose sight of the excellent work that has been going on in Wakefield these past few years and are committed to continuing the success we have experienced. Our fiscal health necessarily depends on how we handle the limitations placed on us as a result of Covid-19, and most importantly how we safely re-enter the new normal of conducting business, shopping, eating at restaurants, and enjoying our town. We are committed to working closely and collaboratively with Town Administrator Steve Maio, our fellow Councilors, the Board of Health, Department Heads, Police and Fire, business leaders, our educators and others to ensure that Wakefield stays strong and fiscally sound. We represent the best of why Wakefield is such a special community, with one of us growing up here and the other choosing to move here. We both know how important and special the soul of our community is and have seen our friends and neighbors rise up to support each other when times are difficult. It is this resiliency that we will be relying on as we move forward these next several months. We wish you and your families remain safe & well. Ann McGonigle Santos, Chair Wakefield Town Council Julie Smith-Galvin, Vice Chair, Wakefield Town Council
